Across all 7 of our primary schools, Christmas is being celebrated in many different ways. In the midst of a wide variety of activities, each school has kept a clear focus on where it all began - in a stable in Bethlehem over 2000 years ago.
In sharing these photos from our various Nativity performances, we would like to wish everyone visiting our website a wonderful Christmas, full of joy and peace.

Archbishop Cranmer held their horticultural show for the first time last year, as all other country shows had been cancelled due to Covid, and it was so enjoyable they have decided to make it an annual event! The show was held again earlier this term and the event was described by the headteacher as "a wonderful celebration of nature and spirituality."

June 2021: Chatterbooks Breakfast Café at Oak Tree Primary School
Because everything changes when we read!
Oak Tree's new Chatterbooks Breakfast Café opened for business on Monday 7th June. It will be led by the headteacher, teachers, teaching assistants, office staff - anyone who works at the school and has a passion for reading, which covers just about everyone!
What's it all about?
- It's simply a breakfast story café, where you read and eat!
- It opens daily at 8.10am.
- It takes place in Oak Tree's beautiful school library.
- Breakfast is provided: toast, fruit, drink etc.
- Children share books, reading together and listening to an adult read. On certain days, children have the opportunity to be the 'Designated Storyteller'.
The key theme of Chatterbooks is reading for pleasure. The aim is to inspire children to read different kinds of books, to enjoy reading for its own sake and to develop confidence in talking in groups. They will be encouraged to share their enthusiasm with friends and family.

May 2021: Wow Writing Day at Winthorpe
On Thursday 27th May, Winthorpe Primary School welcomed Thomas the Gorilla! The children had an assembly and workshops with Thomas throughout the day, covering various conservation and environmental issues. The workshops included using a green screen to produce an animation that the children starred in, and the whole day was used as a stimulus for an end of year writing assessment that the children carried out the following day. Everyone had a fun day and it was great to read everyone’s writing assessments and see how much progress the children have made this year.

May 2021: Archbishop Cranmer going for gold!
Archbishop Cranmer CE Primary Academy has been awarded the Gold Award by the Woodland Trust for their involvement in the Green Tree Schools initiative which gives the opportunity to bring the great outdoors, wildlife and green issues into the classroom.
Tree planting is an incredible way for our children to connect with nature while helping the planet and every child at Archbishop has planted something this term.
Most recently, each year 4 child planted a new tree as part of their pledge to create a new wildlife area, to help clean the air we breathe, and to improve our physical and mental health. We made use of the Woodland Trust’s donations of trees to every school and the children were delighted to know that their trees will become a legacy that future pupils will enjoy.

May 2021: A new chapter in outdoor learning at Archbishop Cranmer
A new eco-friendly outdoor reading library was recently created at Archbishop Cranmer CE Academy and had a grand opening during Mental Health Awareness Week.
Environmental and Wellbeing Ambassadors of the Pupil Parliament expressed the idea of creating a new outdoor reading library so that children could enjoy reading outdoors, reaping the benefits of the sunshine, fresh air and nature.
The library will be used by pupils across the whole school during break times and the school’s dedicated ‘reading for pleasure’ times. It will also complement the new outdoor learning area, which was created by staff, parents and community volunteers at the beginning of the pandemic.
Year 5 pupil Evie Cresswell, who is Pupil Parliament Environmental Ambassador, said, “I am so excited to start reading outside and proud to have created a mindful area that is eco-friendly.”
The outdoor library was up-cycled from a former kennel, which was donated to the school. It was repainted, fitted with shelves, wallpapered with recycled blinds and also includes a solar panel for sustainable lighting. This up-cycling project was in conjunction with the school’s collaboration with Nottingham Trent University and formed part of a legacy project for one of the teacher trainee students.
